What used to be a common custom related to funerals in Sweden was the usage of pine needles: one procedure was to chop up the spruce spray along the way to the church. Making an image inside of a rectangular shape, the spruce spray was laid out as symbols or initials of the deceased’s name.
I rephrased this tradition into something that recalls both a hearse and a stretcher. By adding the text Du Bist Hier - You are here, and filling the void of the letters with pine needles, as a homage to my recently deceased grandfather.
